Violent flames of destruction erupted throughout the town and all that surrounded it. And yet, the night was clear as crystal. Humans would flee for their lives, but the animals would do everything within their power to just stay alive. Perhaps that’s what made them so different? The fact that those two-legged primates tried so hard to become what they’re clearly not. They were the ones who kept wanting things—new technology, more food—if there was a way for them to have more than what they had, they’d get it. Still, there had always been one creature that would stand by them through whatever decision they made, and whether they were fat, poor, ugly or just plain insane. They were man’s best friend, the dog.
Yet, the earth on which these dogs stood would become no more this day. As a result of mankind’s destruction or sin? Who knows. An apocalyptic future, it would seem. Destruction of the world, destruction of life. It didn’t matter how hard they tried to save their human comrades, it just wasn’t possible. Nobody knew that it was coming. The air just began to get hotter and hotter—even though snow was falling—and drier, until finally things started bursting into flames and blowing up.
Years after the fire and smoke cleared, and the earth became normal again, domestic dogs needed to revert back to their wolf instincts in order to survive. This, of course, meant that they had to form groups of ‘family members,’ also known as a pack. It soon became clear that there was no such thing as a stray dog anymore—the ones who had no pack were known simply as rogues. Many of these dogs were ones that had survived the great disaster many years ago. Others were born much later, and only knew of the legends that the adults told them. And there was no longer any such thing as a human being anymore, either.
Come join in on the fun!
